Third Trimester || Pregnancy Diaries

Almostttt there, we are currently nearly 40 weeks pregnant which is longer than I carried Theo! I’m really starting to get to the point of feeling ready to be done. Maybe not as much done as we’ve never dealt with the uncertainty of “when exactly are we going to go into active labor?” That’s new and not as much fun.

Baby

Due to my complications when pregnant with Theo, my midwives had me get growth scans every 4 weeks starting at 28. The perk is I was able to get some really nice little sneak peeks at her face. She’s got more squish going on than Theo did, that’s for sure. At 36 weeks she was estimated to be at 6 lbs 1 oz, which put her in the 47th percentile. It feels pretty good to know my body is doing it’s thing and growing a hopefully average sized little girl. She’s an active little thing, particularly in the evenings. Hiccups that shake my whole belly are a nightly occurrence for her. She’s been head down for months now, she’s sitting in position ready to go!

Pregnancy Side Effects

All the swelling. Just all of it. Before when I’d sleep it would go down, and I could start the day fresh, but not anymore. My swelling is certainly worse this pregnancy, I’m sure the heat plays a role. I technically have pitting edema this time, little bits of pressure leave marks in my legs that stay for hours.

Cravings

Ice cream, that’s all. My cravings have not been as intense this time around. Honestly with a toddler it is hard to find time to cook and eat during the day anyway. I currently have 2 different types of ice cream in the freezer, and I'm making a 3rd right now. It may be a slight problem.

Aversions

Nothing that I can think of, I’ll really eat anything which is a nice change.

Mama’s Health

Most days now I’m still feeling pretty good. I had one high BP reading and a nasty headache but I am pretty sure the headache was weather related and the BP was due to the headache, not the other way around. I won’t lie, I like my naps and I take them whenever I can. Exhaustion is catching up to me, mixed with bursts of energy where I need to get EVERYTHING done. Overall my weight is up 15 lbs, which I can’t complain about. I’m hoping 7-8 of that is a baby, then placenta, blood, and all this damn water from swelling. I’m really hoping I’m not one of those people who’s body won’t loose weight while breastfeeding. I’m ready for walks with my kids and gaining use of my abs back.

Excited About

Oh this is easy, we are just excited to meet her. Part of me loves being pregnant, and keeping her safe and letting her grow and grow and the other part of me is just ready to have her on the outside.

Purchases

I caved and bought a lovevery play gym for her. I wanted one for Theo but it never happened, so this time around I just bought it. I’ve purchased some other odds and ends like a nursing stool, drawer dividers, bows, gas drops… just the necessities. It does feel kind of strange to just be stocking up on the disposable items, and nothing big this time around.

We officially transitioned Theo into his big boy bed, and he loves it. We left the crib down for a few weeks, but Paul has recently put it up in our room and Theo seems pretty ok with it. Her room is actually painted, and lots of things are ready in it! We need to work on her closet still, and I need to hang art etc. but we’re further along nursery wise than we were with Theo. Oh, and get this. I actually have a hospital bag packed! Last time I had to run home and panic put one together with my mom.

When did you have your hospital bag packed and ready to go? I think I had mine done at 37 weeks.
